In the book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, Perry Smith is described to have some psychological issues coming from his childhood. Daniel Reisel talks about having a defected amygdala. A defected amygdala causes the lack of empathy and immoral behavior. Perry shows very immoral behavior throughout the book, killing a family for his own selfish needs. Feeling guilty but still moving on about his life because his love for Dick Hickock is stronger than doing the right thing. If there were better neurologist when Perry was in prison we could’ve gotten tested to see if his amygdala was defected. Perry could’ve gotten help with his life and becoming the better man he wanted to be he was just taking the wrong steps to get to his goal. Instead of Perry being executed he could've been taken to a mental center and taking care of. His life was ended because of a possible brain defect.
